EP 21: Practice Gratitude
Practicing gratitude means paying attention to what we are thankful to the point that it makes us feel more kind and compassionate toward the world. It can motivate people to make positive changes in their lives.
I say Practice gratitude instead of be grateful, Because honestly it is not easy. It does not come natural to be grateful. Maybe in November there is a heightened sense of gratitude because of thanksgiving, but in general. Misery likes company and life is hard. To truly focus on the good takes practice.
Why practice gratitude? There are lot of reasons, and lots of science that tells us the benefits. But I'm just going to touch the surface.
It makes you happier. Practicing gratitude gives us a positive outlook on life. By focusing on what we’re grateful for we’re better able to see the potential in everything, to be open to new possibilities and to feel more optimistic about life. With more optimism, we feel better about ourselves and are more open to living a fuller life.
It is improves your relationships. When we practice gratitude and have a more positive outlook on life, it attracts others to us. It opens up communication and makes us more approachable. It also puts us in a position to deal with conflict better because we have conditioned ourselves to not focus on the negative.
Finally, it's like a domino effect. It makes you happier, and those around you happier. Your relationship become more fulfilled and it makes you healthier. Scientific studies have shown some of the greatest benefits to living more gratefully include: improved sleep, increased energy levels, better brain function and stronger immune systems.
How to do you practice gratitude? The best way to reap the benefits of gratitude is to notice new things you’re grateful for every day.
Just like going to the gym and following a work out regiment, our spirit benefits from energetic workout routines. Practicing gratitude is one of the ways to energetically help you move forward.
It takes time to shift your mindset, and it take some intentional work. I'm going to share some practical ways that you can start practicing gratitude today!
