Young & Determined

I have been a business owner for a year and a half now. I am a college student, a photojournalist and a business owner. I am a full-time college student at Appalachian State University. I am studying photography, business, and marketing. Ever since I was little, I have been passionate about photography. However, my senior year of high school it dawned on me that I wanted to open a photography business.

My first semester of college was difficult because I went in as Biology major because I love science. However, through my own adventures and struggles, I figured out that I wanted to keep running my photography business and go to school for photography. Photography is something that I use to help with my stress and I love to share my creativity with others.

It has been extremely difficult being a business owner at 19 because so many people comment that I cannot do it. However, I have overcome this hate from other people and have multiple accomplishments to show for it. I have also been told that I could not be a sports photographer because I am a female, but guess what? I took photos at the Camellia Bowl this past December and I worked with a professional arena football team this spring as a photojournalist.

I want other women to know that it does not matter that you are female, young or old. If you have an idea, run with it.

As a 19 year old business owner my life is much more complicated than most because I complete my class work while also completing my client’s orders. A daily routine for me looks like getting up, eating breakfast and going to my classes. After I finish my classes, I eat lunch, check my emails, call clients and see what else I have to do for the day.  I complete my homework for college and eat dinner. If I have any shoots or sports games, I do them in between 5:00 pm and 8:30 pm. I use the end of the day to edit photos and update my website. Then, I go back to sleep and do it all over the next day.

I want other women to know that it does not matter that you are female, young or old. If you have an idea, run with it. Do what you want to do and do not let anyone tell you that you cannot do it. Set a goal and complete it. Strive for the goal as much as you can and make the best of it. Live your life confident in your creativity!
